I made this cutting board as a wedding gift for my husband's cousin for their wedding gift. You can customize the design with custom names and date.

I designed my file in Adobe Illustrator. I got the mountain scenery from Creative Fabrica which allows for digital commercial use if adding other elements.

I used the font josephsophia for the names. You may need to download this font if you plan to use the heart linking the two names.

  1. Add mountain element or other photo.
  2. Add text box with last name and choose font. Apply warp tool if you want it arched.
  3. Add text box with wedding date and choose font.
  4. Add text box with first person's name. Change font to josephsophia or desired font.
  5. Highlight the last letter in the name and find “glyphs” tab. Change the last letter to the chosen letter with an attached heart.
  6. Add text box with second name.
  7. Move the second name until in joins with the heart.
  8. Highlight both names, combine/weld.
  9. Arrange all elements in desired locations and resize based on area of board.
  10. Save as an SVG.

Once you have added your customization to the file in XCS, set up your laser.

  1. Decide where you want your design. I put mine in the lower corner. I was able to open the frame and place the corner in the engraving area. If you want it in the middle you may need to remove the bottom plate and place the whole machine on top of the board.
  2. Rotate the design if needed. I had to rotate mine upside down.
  3. Use the framing tool to align the design on your board. Resize and reposition as needed.
  4. Close the frame as far as you can. If you can't close it fully I would recommend wearing safety glasses for the wavelengths of the laser.
  5. Put in settings.
  6. Process and engrave.
