Step 1: Creating the Apple

  • First, we need to start with an apple. 
    • On the left had side panel, click on the icon with the circle and square.
    • Click Plant
    • Scroll down and click on the apple
    • For this design I sized it to about 6.648"x 7.035"
Step 2: Editing the Nodes

  • Click on the apple.
    • On the right side panel, click on Edit nodes.
  • We dont want any of the nodes inside of the apple.
    • Click and drag over the nodes in the apple a green box will appear.
      • Click delete on your keyboard when they are selected.
  • Click done.
  • Select the apple and make sure it's set to “Cut”
Step 3: The backer board and Post-it box

  • Click on the apple
    • Click “outline” on the right side panel.
    • The offset distance will be very minimal because we are creating a backerboard to the apple to sit on. For this project, the offset distance can be set to -0.001
    • Click “OK”
  • Now, we need to measure out deck of post it notes with digital calipers so we know what dimensions to make the square box for it to sit in.
    • The post-its I have measure at 3" x 3"
  • On the left side panel click the circle or rectangle icon 
    • Create a square with the measurements 3.10" x 3.10".
      • I used these measurements to add a little gap for the post-its so they are easy to get in and out.
  • Place the square box towards the bottom of the apple leaving room at the top for a custom name above,
Step 4: Customizing with a Name

In this step, we will customize with your teachers name. 

  • On the left side panel, click the"T"
    • Add the teacher's name of your choosing.
    • Set that text to score and left it inside the apple
      • This will help with placing your letters after painting 

Get creative here and use whatever font that you would like!

  • Now select the text
    • right click, copy, paste
    • now set this text to “cut”

Now you should have 3 groups

  1. You should have a backer board.
  2. An apple with the square and text inside of it
  3. and some text

Make sure you “Group” the apple with the text and square all together. 

  • Right click, group.

Make sure all your objects have the correct settings. 

Everything should be sit to “cut” execpt the text inside the apple. That should be set to “score”

 

You have double checked everything it is ready to set to the laser to be cut~

  • First paint your project however you would like.
  • First glue the outline of the apple onto the backer board so it is flush on all sides.
  • Once your pieces are dried from the painting, you can glue the stem and leaf inside of the outline.
  • Next glue your apple inside of the outline.
  • Finally, glue the letters inside the scored outline on top ofthe apple.

Now you're done and have a great custom gift for your favorite teacher!
