Step 1: Add in Text

Since the primary element of this design is the word OPEN, let's begin by adding in all text we want to display. It would be best for the text to be in all caps, and a very bold font.
Step 2: Build the background
Next, I began to build the frame for this project. I wanted to use the rounded edge of the square in the XCS shapes library, but I will need a rectangular shape in the end. To elongate the shape without skewing the rounded corners, I cut the shape in half using the combine tool and then copied it and reflected the shape. This gives me the two ends of the rectangle.

Now draw a rectangle over the OPEN text and then bring the two end pieces created in the previous step. Select all three and use the vertical alignment tool to make sure they are perfectly aligned. With all three still selected, ensure they are overlapping and use the combine tool to unite all three.
Step 4: Add text to top
I wanted to add some visual interest to the design by putting a smaller “We are” text in a script font. I added an outline and then used the combine tool to unite the shape to the top of the sign.
