Information

a scene that brings together the protagonists of horror lovers' nightmares, with highly complex and detailed engraving

Step1: suggestions

considerations to take into account

  • To optimize work time, engrave and cut each piece individually
  • The engraving used in these pieces is in format (image or bitmap) to create texture and depth.
  • For more intricate pieces, such as the tree, you should make sure to give an additional cutting pass because if the piece is not cut perfectly it will be difficult to extract it from the wood sheet.

Step2: characters

The characters are in chibi format, you can rely on artificial intelligence to generate them using prompts such as: chibi, full body, very detailed, horror style, line art.
This way you can create your own compositions of any theme.

Step3: trace vector

  • We take the generated image and remove the background.
  • Then we must create a solid color version of our character so that the laser processing program better recognizes the silhouette.
  • We draw the solid image and obtain the contour, then we position our character on the contour and thus we have the engraving layer and the cutting layer unified. The solid black image can now be discarded. Its only function was to allow us to obtain the contour vector.

We repeat this process with each of the characters

Step4: house, tree and base

step carried out in photoshop: as we can see in the images the process is very similar to that of the characters with the difference that we will have to create textures.

  • For that, select an image with the texture of wooden boards, we desaturate the image so that it is grayscale, we apply contrast filters until we obtain areas of clarity and shadow (remember that the intention is to create depth for that we need a compression on the light , shadows and perspective.
  • After having the optimal wood texture image, we duplicate it as many times as necessary to cover the surface of the house and begin to eliminate the excess, obtaining what we see in the second image (figure 2).
  • Noting that the texture was not enough to give the piece the necessary depth, I decided to add a (powerline) which is nothing more than a contour that surrounds the entire piece, thus obtaining the result of (figure 3).

This same process will be carried out with the tree but this time a different texture, more similar to an old tree.

Step5: positioning of elements

Since what we want to create is a three-dimensional work, it is difficult to imagine the final result, so I created a reference image that would help me identify how to place each element and at what distance between them. Since they were superimposed it was possible that those located in front would reduce the visibility of those in the background.

Engraving made in bitmap mode or image mode generally has filters that are more effective depending on the case.
I did the work with lightburn and the ideal is:
For the characters: Jarvis filter since it is smoother and more detailed. For textures: Attikson filter is more dramatic and contrasted.

Note: the parameters indicated are generic and are suitable for all pieces, but for a better finish I recommend making the engraving of the house with less intensity since the phrases of the characters will be engraved again on top of it (if the initial engraving is very dark, the sentences will not stand out)
