This is a great Mother's Day gift that is both cheap but great for personalization and style. One of the biggest reasons I love my Xtool Laser is the ability to personalize almost everything I make. I wanted to make a tray, similar to one I found as a kid in my grandmother's house. Hope you can enjoy and make this. Any questions on the procedure let me know.
First you will need to take a 6ft cedar fence post and cut it into 3-2ft sections. This can be done with the laser or with a table saw. I prefer the laser as it makes less mess. This will allow you to get 1 tray out of each fence post.
You will need to cut the handles and 2- 1in strips out of one of the 2ft sections of boards. I have the extension kit but it can be done without, you will just need to move the material after cutting and rerun the line cut of the 2 in sections as they need to be the full 2ft length. I have put the lightburn file so you can arrange accordingly. But I figured that the rest are just straight cuts so you wont need a file for anything but the handles
Next you will need to sand all the edges down and assemble with brad nails. I used 1in brad nails for this. You can also glue it up with wood glue but I felt that just using brad nails made it look more rustic. In in the video you can see the layout of but you can really make this your own. I do suggest dry fitting everything and nailing the sides on first as it will help everything align better.
Once put together, the rest is up to you. I went with a burnt wood look but honestly you could stain it, or leave it as is. You could also add more embellishments if you wanted to with your laser or even customize it with a logo.
