I am trying to use these settings to engrave a photo a client would like on a piece of wood. The issue that I am running in to is that the finished product seems to have lightened some of the darker spots after the initial layer. I think I know which layer this is, but after removing or editing the layer (decreasing speed and increasing power) I am still getting the same result. Does anyone have any suggestions??? I am using the S1 40W on Balsa wood

Great work !!! I have one more question: where exactly do you set that one level should be processed after the other, I can't find anything in XCS 2.1 bzw. XCS 2.2.

Totally awesome! I'm using theS1 20w using the settings that come up when I connect my 20w and it turned out great and I also did a slate coaster just to see if it would work, it did but i was wondering how to invert the image so the dark areas would come out lighter and the light areas wound come out darker. Any ideas if it can be done would be appreciated. Thanks Wade

Hi Wade, Here’s how to proceed in XCS: 1. Ungroup the Image: Select the image and click “Ungroup.” You’ll notice there are four separate images (layers) in the project. Drag each image away from the group to separate them. 2. Adjust the Images: Once ungrouped, the “Adjust” option will appear in the top bar. Select any of the images, then click “Adjust.” In the pop-up window, look for the “Invert” option below the setting bars and apply it. Repeat this step for each of the four images. 3. Align and Group: After inverting all the images, select all four layers. Use the Alignment Tool menu to “Align Center.” Then, group the images to keep everything together. 4. Engraving Note: I haven’t tested this process for engraving, so I’m not sure of the final outcome.

If this doesn’t achieve the desired result, you can reset an image by: • Selecting it. • Opening the “Adjust” pop-up. • Adjusting the “Grayscale” slider: Move the left circle all the way left and the right circle all the way right. This restores the image to its original state. Feel free to experiment further with adjustments. Just remember to configure your power and speed settings to suit your preferences. I have converted your S1 settings to work on my F1 thru trial and error. . I duplicated the Grey scale settings for each layer. I then doubled the power settings for each layer. Finally I set the speed to 5x (dot duration on the F1). The results were impressive! Thank you so much for this tutorial, I learned so much. I've only had my F1 for two weeks so tutorials like this help me understand the capabilities.

I am trying to run this eagle, but the instructions are for a 40w and I have a 20w. How do I set the limits for a 20w. Is there some kind of calculation you can use. Setting for power for the 40w is 25 and the speed is 550, but what would I use on a 20w machine???

This is using the suggested settings, the dark was a little darker, so I will do it again and adjust for that...again great!!!!

My first run at this file and was really surprised at the results. This was one of my kids canvas frames and found out what color glue they used. I am sure when I throw some better stock in the laser it would come out great. Great file and thank you for sharing this idea of adding layers without a CNC.

That's great! I am finishing up a couple more deep relief engraves that I am going to post in the store. They will come with a full set of instructions along with the image. Working on an owl, great white shark, and another eagle.

What am I doing wrong? I followed these steps, but my S1 wants to engrave the images in a row, not as layers. I know its just a setting I don't have correct. Please help!

I've used the technique with Stainless. That being said, are all your images (layers) centered as a group? The only way I can think of "engrave images in a row" is maybe a layout issue? I don't know your knowledge/skill level so maybe this is already something you have addressed. Then again even experienced users have our WTF moments., lol Anyway hope I maybe provided possibly helpful FB. Cheers, M

Just got my S1. I have already tinkered with 3D. I have been doing the light ones first, and then more power? Does it really matter? I do not have that answer?

I prefer the opposite. Start with the darker images with higher power. However, if it works for you, that's great! ;)

It will matter, if you start lighter and go darker, the darker will "overwrite" the lighter because darker needs more power to make it dark

I'm not entirely sure what you mean here. Yes, you can achieve darker marks by increasing the power. However, you can also get darker markings by keeping the power constant and lowering the speed. When engraving, your goal shouldn't be just to create a darker path. Instead, aim to create enough depth in the path to produce shadows that mimic darker markings. Also, when you adjust an image to bring out darker lines and shades, you're doing this to ensure the laser focuses on the areas where you want to achieve the desired effect.
