Step1: Materials required

Step-by-Step Guide to Prepare a Laser Cut Wooden Pendant Lamp

Materials Needed

  1. Wood (such as plywood or MDF)
  2. Laser cutter
  3. Design software (XCS,Coreldraw)
  4. Light socket
  5. LED bulb
  6. Electrical cord with plug
  7. Screws or adhesive
  8. Sandpaper
  9. Painting or finishing supplies (optional)

Step2: Create the Artwork

Sketch Your Design:

  • Begin by sketching your wave design for the pendant lamp. attached artwork is for 6mm pine board, if you are going to use a different thickness, please rescale the artwork.

Digitize the Drawing:

  • Import your sketch into XCS. Use vector shapes to create a clean and detailed outline of your lamp’s components.

Final Adjustments:

  • Adjust the scale of your design to fit the desired dimensions. Make sure to include cut lines and engraving areas if needed.

Step3: Prepare for Laser Cutting

Export the Design:

  • Save your artwork as a suitable file type for the laser cutter XCS.

Set Up Laser Cutter:

  • Prepare the laser cutter according to the XCS guidelines. Ensure it's clean and properly calibrated.

Upload File:

  • Load your design file into the laser cutting software. Adjust settings for the material being used (cutting speed and power). for cutting 6mm pine board i used 100% power, speed 8mm/s and 3 passes will cut thoroughly!

Step4: Laser Cut the Wood

Place the Wood:

  • Position the wood sheet on the cutter bed, ensuring it’s secured.

Run the Laser:

  • Start the laser cutting process. Monitor the machine for any issues.

Retrieve Cut Pieces:

  • Once cutting is complete, carefully remove the pieces. Check for any imperfections or incomplete cuts.

Step5: Assemble the Lamp

Sand the Edges:

  • Use sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges on the wooden pieces for a polished finish.

Assemble the Structure:

  • Follow your design to assemble the cut pieces into the lamp structure. Use screws or adhesive as needed to secure them. please refer to the attached image to arrange order the cut peices.

Step6: Prepare the Lighting Component

Install the Light Socket:

  • Attach the light socket to the top of the wooden lamp structure.

Connect the Electrical Cord:

  • Safely connect the electrical cord to the light socket, ensuring all connections are secure and correctly insulated.

Insert LED Bulb:

  • Screw in the LED bulb into the socket.

Step7: Finishing Touches

Add Finishing: (Optional)

  • If desired, apply a wood finish, varnish, or paint to enhance the appearance of the lamp.

Test the Lamp:

  • Plug in the lamp to ensure all electrical connections work properly and the light functions as intended.

Final Assembly:

  • Hang the pendant lamp using appropriate hardware, ensuring it is securely mounted for safety.
