Information
In this tutorial I'll show you how to craft a pencil case and how to create a box from scratch and how to find a design to add to it.

Instruction
1
Step1: Create a box with a drawer

If you struggle to create your very own boxes, there are tools to help you achieve your goals. For my pencil case I used the help of the Boxes.py box generator. Simply google for “boxes.py” and find the box of your desire. For the pencil case we want to use the “Sliding Drawer Box”.

  1. Visit boxes.py
  2. Choose “Sliding Drawer Box”
  3. Change the “Sliding Drawer” settings to the dimensions that you want it to be
  4. Adjust thickness and format (SVG) under general settings
  5. Download the file

Step2: Import your box and arrange

  1. Import the file you downloaded from boxes.py
  2. Arrange the pieces so that they'll fit onto your plywood. I used 12x12 inch plywood from xTool

Step3: Create a design for your pencil case

I cannot draw. But with AI it is possible to have your own and unique designs for everything that you create. xTool Creative Space has a built in AI for this purpose. You can use either this AI, or any other. Another option is to use a free design from pixabay.

  1. Use words like “pencils, line drawing, vector, black and white, drawing, coloring book” and what ever you would like to see
  2. Choose the design that fits your imagination the most
  3. Import into XCS
  4. Use the Filter and the Edit function to the right if needed
  5. Adjust the size to fit the lid of the pencil case
  6. Make sure the flat line of the lid is on the right side (if you are left handed, it should be left)
  7. The processing type should only show Engrave
  8. Change the settings as shown above or use your own prefered ones

Step4: Pick the right font for your name

If the pencil case is going to be for a child, you should try a playful font.

  1. Find the right font for your project
  2. Click on the Text tool on the left
  3. Add a name to the canvas
  4. If the letters overlap, make sure to Weld
  5. Change the processing type to Score
  6. Change the settings as shown above or use your own prefered ones

Step5: Cut and build the pencil case

  1. Mark all the pieces that need to be cut
  2. Change the processing type to cut and adjust the settings as shown above
  3. Place your wood into the M1 if you haven't done that before
  4. Choose your Material
  5. Measure the Thickness
  6. Start the process
  7. Separate the parts into two groups (drawer and case) and assemble
  8. If you wish, you can add acrylic paint to the box or keep it natural
