Information
I really enjoy making "family" projects. If you haven't seen them already, please take a look at the "Family Garden" and "Mom's Family Basket" projects I created. They can each be tailor made to suit your family (including pets). This "Tool Box" was created for my father. He's not the type for "colorful" things so I left it unpainted but you can add colors if you wish.

So, the idea is to create a tool box that includes all your family members. You can include your pets as well but just remember you need to have room for everyone. In the image I've shared, I chose a random tool box (better known as a "carpenter's bin"). The "tools" are actually svg files purchased from Etsy. I just added the names. The Etsy files are fragmented allowing you to cut out various pieces. I combined them and "scored" the various details. I used the "outline" feature to create a cut line image and left the detail image to be scored. You can place them right on top of each other. Then I added the text for names. Be sure to add enough space around your names. It's best to find an empty area but it you can't (like the screwdriver) you can just add a box to clear out the area you want to add the name.

This method can be used to convert your 2D images into 3D objects..

Take a look at the tool box. You have a "front," "middle" and "back."

I basically separated the different levels and create a panel for each (I also included two spacers between the front and back to make room for all the tools. I edited the image in XCS then used the outline feature to create a cut line around the image. I repeated this process for each level.

Then I created the text and rotated it to fit the proper angle of the tool box. You can create any message just remember the tool box to me represents MY dad and the tools represented the rest of our family including our pets.

Once all the pieces are engraved, cut and painted (optional) - You want to lay them out and get ready to glue them together. You're only going to need to glue together the front, the middle pieces and the back together. I didn't glue the tools to allow my dad to remove them and inspect them whenever he wants.

This was an extremely fun project to put together and it can be created for other family members, friends or neighbors. It's extremely unique and customized for each family. Makes a great Father's Day gift. Great for young families who may have a small family now but you can always add more "tools" to their box!!

Thanks for your time. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to comment below.

Thanks and HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!
