Step 1: The Design Stage
  • Start by creating two squares
    • 3.05" x 3.05"
    • 3.9" x 4.175"
  • Creating the point
    • Create a triangle
      • right side panel
        • shapes icon
          • triangle
    • Size it to the width of the larger square
      • combine
        • unite
  • Editing the Nodes
    • Right side panel
      • Edit nodes
      • Delete the nodes that are sticking out
        • click and drag over the ones that sticking out
          • click delete on your keyboard
            • done
  • Adding the eraser
    • Right side panel
      • square with curved corners
        • size to the width of pencil body 
          • make sure you overlap over the pencil body
        • right side panel
          • combine
            • unite
  • You should have two objects 
    • The pencil body and a square
      • set both objects to cut
  • Select the pencil body
    • right click
      • copy
        • paste just the outline of the pencil
  • Pencil body details
    • Add three lines
      • right side panel
        • basic shapes
          • lines
            • two lines at the top making the eraser 
            • another right beneath it
            • the third at the bottom of the pencil making the lead of the pencil
  • Adding Teacher's Name
    • Right side panel
      • “T” Icon
        • Add your teachers name
        • you can select whatever font you would like
        • make sure its set to cut
        • move it into the erase for sizing 
        • move it out once you have the sizing you like.
  • Grouping
    • Select the whole pencil with all the objects inside and group them all together
      • Right click
        • Group
  • Custom engraving under post it
    • Optional - Right side panel
      • “T”
      • add personalized text message to teacher and place under post it.
        • make sure its set to engrave
        • make sure you put it on the pencil that has no objects on it. Right where the posits would go.
        • Set your engraving settings
        • Make sure you group all of you objects together that are in the same pencil
Step 2: Laser Prep/Send to Laser
  • Double check all your cut/engraving settings
  • auto measure
  • send to laser!
Step 3: Assembling
  • I use paint tape to make clean lines for my paint.
  • once painted and dried glue the top of the pencil with the scoring and square cut out on top of the solid piece making sure its flush
  • glue the teachers name onto the eraser
