Everything was designed in XCS.

To create the sign shape.

  1. Select a heart from shapes and a rectangle.
  2. I changed the heart to be longer by unlocking the sizing and changing the height. This step can be skipped for a standard shaped heart. The size of the heart can be changed to fit more or less hearts on the sign.
  3. Copy the heart 5 times. (b.)
  4. Align 4 Hearts side by side, close together, select them → Vertical Align → Group (a.)
  5. Center Align the grouped hearts with the rectangle.
  6. Move the hearts to the best position on top of the rectangle, then Combine → Unite all the shapes.
  7. Add an inner outline to the remaining heart and copied the inner outline 5 times. (b.)
  8. Center align the inner outlines with the 4 hearts on the sign. (a.)
  9.  Select the 4 hearts outlines → right click → Group . (a.)
  10. Select the grouped heart outlines and the sign shape and click Combine → Subtract at Overlap, to cut the hearts.
  11. Set the setting of the sign object to Cut.

a. This can be more or less hearts depending on the number of children.

b. This can be more or less hearts depending on the number of children, plus one more.

Everything on this step will be set to Engrave with the same settings.

To create the heart engraved outline to attach the children's names.

  1. Change the outline heart (left from step one) to engrave.
  2. Copy the heart 4 times. (a.)

Steps 2 and 3 are optional.

The squiggly is to add space between the heart and the names.

   2. To create the squiggly end to the engraved heart outline, I took a script font that had a squiggly end and cut that end with a square object → Combine → subtract.

   3. Combine the outline heart and the squiggly Combine → Unite.

Add the children's names.

  1. Add the children's names using Font Dancing Script that comes with XCS.
  2. Weld each name.
  3. Align each name to each heart and Combine → Unite to make it one object.
  4. Align each heart/name object with the hearts on the sign object.

Add established year text

  1. Add new Text  using Font Grandstander that comes with XCS.
  2. Type the word “EST.” and the first year of motherhood. → EST. 2001

a. This can be more or less hearts depending on the number of children.

XTool Select Red Glitter Acrylic.
  1. Add Text MAMA or MOM using font Grandstander that comes with XCS.
  2. Size it and center it horizontally.
  3. Move it approximately ¼ to ½ inches below the children names.
  4. Duplicate it.
  5. Set one to Score with the provided settings.
  6. Set one to Cut with the provided settings. This can be cut in wood instead of acrylic, using cut settings, according to the material used.
  7. Move the EST text to be below the MOM text and align both left, making sure that the MOM test is still centered on the sign.
Step 4: Add support to the sign

This is adding the support piece to the sign and a base to support the sign.

  1. Add a rectangle wider than the sign, this will be the base of the sign.
  2. Round the corners slightly. (this step can be skipped).
  3. Add 3 small rectangles 1inch H.  and W. that matches the material.
  4. Align the rectangles to be the same space apart and group them.
  5. Duplicate.
  6. Align the groups together and then center align with the sign and base.
  7. Bottom align a group of rectangles with the sign and Combine → Unite
  8. Horizontal Align → Vertical Align the base with the remaining group of rectangle.

Before sending the project to the machine.

  1. Group all the engraving objects together
  2. Group all the cut objects together.

Step 5: Finish up

To complete the sign, glue the MOM or MAMA letters to the sign, using the score marks as guides.

At this point the sign is complete.

I took it a step further by adding UV Resin to the hearts, to add a little bit of sparkle.

  1. Mix Resin with a little bit of glitter.
  2. Put blue tape on the back of the hearts, this allows the resin to stay in the hearts and not bleed out.
  3. Pour the resin inside the hearts and put it under a UV light to cure.

That's it…

I made the project file modifiable so is easier to make it personal to you.

Happy Crafting!
