In this tutorial I'll show you how to create stunning artwork using clipart and Rainbow Scratch Paper. I'll show you how to prepare the image for processing and what parameters I used to get the effect. The image is included in the files section,
Basic Information is loading...
Step 1: Import and Resize the Image

Import the image into the software, it’s included as part of this tutorial. This image measures 3” x 4” 300dpi and .png format.  I will be framing this project and need to resize the image to 5” x 7”, use the measurement tools on the top toolbar to do that.

Step 2: How to Invert the Image

Next you need to decide how you want the image to appear.  Rainbow paper has a black top with a rainbow color below it.  Anything that appear black on the screen will be removed by the laser revealing the rainbow color below.  Since I want the opposite effect, I need to “invert” the image.  Use the “Invert” toggle to the right of the screen if you want that look.

Step 3: Prepare the Paper for Engraving

I used low tack tape to secure the top and bottom of the rainbow scratch paper to a piece of basswood then placed that inside my M1.  I then used the material pins to secure the wood to the honeycomb.  I’ll be using the air assist and this will ensure that it doesn’t move while processing.

Step 4: Material and Parameter Settings
Setting 1
Process Method
Bitmap Laser Engrave
Process Material

Power(%) or Cut Pressure(g)

Speed(mm/s)

Bitmap mode
Jarvis

Material:  Select “Kraft Paper” as the material and perform the auto measure.  Using the camera capture as your reference place the image onto the paper.

I’m using the M1 10 watt diode laser for this project and the following parameters worked for me. If you are using a different type or power laser you will need to do some testing to see what works for that machine.

Step 5: Prepare for Framing

Remove the image from the laser and carefully trim to size.  Place in the frame and you have a stunning project to show off.  Note: I did not put the glass in the frame, I preferred the look without it.

Hope you liked this project, if so, give it a thumbs up.  Please list comments and questions below.
