Learn how to turn clip art into a vector file then engrave it onto a cutting board and make a gift tag.
Basic Information is loading...
Step 1: How to Create the Vector Files

Click on “image” and import the clipart into the software.  To make changes to it select “Edit image” and use the “erase” tool to remove the line from the stem of the leaf.  Click “Save”.

Now select the “Trace” icon and move the: Fuzziness threshold, Denoising and Smoothness sliders to 100% leave the “Layer by color toggle” off.  Click “Save”

Click and drag the vectorized image from the clip art.  Delete the clipart file as you no longer need it.

Reduce the size of the leaf so you have more work space.

Select the text tool and type in your text.  I used the “Asyifa” font at a size of 36 for this project.

Draw a rectangle that is the size of your cutting board and assign a different layer color to it.  Arrange your design within the dimensions of the cutting board.  I chose to duplicate the leaf and place a smaller version of it in the upper right corner.

Place the cutting board inside of the M1, select 3mm Basswood as the material and perform the auto measure.  Once that is complete select all of the files at once and align them to what you see on the screen.

Use the “framing” feature to ensure that everything is aligned correctly.  Once you are happy with that select the vector that represents the size of the cutting board and from “Object settings” click “Ignore”.

Set the engrave parameters for the project: Power - 80, Speed – 150, Pass -1, Lines Per cm -120.  Send the project to the laser.

Step 2: How to Create the Leaf Ornament

To make the Leaf ornament copy the leaf vector file and click the + icon on the bottom left of the screen to add a new canvas.  Paste the leaf and resize it to 4 inches.  Create an outline measuring 0.134, uncheck the “Add inner outline for bitmap” option and change the layer color to RED.

To make the hoop create a circle that is 0.598 inches then using the outline tool create an outline measuring 0.144.    Align both circles vertical and horizontal, then from the “Combine” menu choose “subtract at overlap”.

Place the circles on top of the leaf overlapping the RED outline slightly.  From the Layers panel select the RED color and from the “Combine” menu choose “unite.”

I choose 3mm basswood to cut this and selected 3mm basswood from the Material option and used the defaults to cut and engrave.  Red is cut, Blue is engrave.
