Desk Organiser to Hold USB, USB-C & SD Cards - xTool Projects
This desk organiser can hold 4 USB drives, 4 USB-C and 5 SD cards.

I only have a 5w D1 Pro so cutting thicker materiel isn't really possible but there can be some benefits to using multiple layers of thin materiel as I did for this desk organiser.

I used 4mm MDF from a local laser supplies store and a piece of 3mm walnut plywood from xTool for the top layer.

Depending on the thickness of your materiel you may need to adjust how many layers you use.

Step 1: Make the jig

I was making a few of these hexagon shapes so I created this jig file to make it quicker and easier to glue all of the layers together.

Depending on the thickness of your material and how thick you would like the finished product to be you may need to cut out this file several times.

I used 6 layers of 4mm MDF and used some fast drying miter super glue to stick all of the layers together.

Just make sure you have a flat surface to perfectly align each layer before glueing.

Step 2: Cut the hexagons

To avoid wasting the more expensive walnut plywood I used plain MDF for all but the top layer.

When you open the design file in XCS remember to set the top layer, the top left one in the file, to ignore as this will be cut later from a different material to give the finished product a nicer appearence.

Step 3: Cut the top layer

Once you have all the MDF layers complete, cut the top layer from walnut plywood or any other aesthetically pleasing material you have available.

Step 4: Glue the layers together using the jig

Cover the surface of each layer with glue but be careful not to get glue in the slots for the USBs and SD cards. This will prevent them from slotting in properly and it is very difficult to remove once the glue is dry.

I used glue with an accelerator for almost instant drying but if you are using standard wood glue you might want to use a clamp or something heavy to keep all of the layers in place while everything sets.
