Just a super fun super adorable bookmark that I created while designing in the XTool Creative Space for the first time. Plus, who doesn't love hearts, crescent moons, stars and a simple and easy to make little gift!

Instructions in the steps posted below are for cutting, prepping, varnishing and assembling your bookmark. In under 10 Minutes <3 7 if you're quick at varnishing lol

There will eventually be a video clip of showing the whole how to process of how to design, make, prep, varnish and assemble your bookmark, but it's on my twitch until I edit it and add a shorter version here... I'm new to recording myself so that might take a while to do lol. The stream for this was fun though and once I edit it and post it here, if you want, you could follow along with the video and design your own version with me in the XTOOL CreativeSpace. It took 1hour45 minutes to stream from start to finish (Blank canvas to end product).

01a. Download the attached XTool Creativespace file.

01b. Open File <(^.^)>

01c. Position your chosen material on the lazerbed. (1-3mm materials are ideal for bookmarks as they aren't too thick so they won't damage your books.)

01d. Move the image in the CreativeSpace so you can align your lazer with the material so as to avoid material wastage.

01e. Set the correct processing parameters for your material, check it's set to output and cutting. For Jarrah Plywood, the cut setting on my S1 20w is PWR 100 SPD 7. This is because the glue is thicker inside this ply, but it's lazer safe and formaldehyde free.

NOTE: I've used 2 layers in this file, check your settings for both layers. one layer will make the heart dangle tassel like part.

NOTE: This one took 3minutes and 47seconds to fully cut.

Step 2: Prep & Varnish

02a. Remove Bookmark and 2 lazer cut hearts from lazer machine (lol)

02b. Clean your Bookmark and hearts. I used a water tray with a paper towel to quickly dry my project. You can run it under a tap too. Make sure to rub any edges to remove smoke marks and ash from the Lazer cutting process, because no one wants ashy smoke stains on their books. Pat dry thoroughly on a towel, paper towel or tissues.

03c. After they are dry. Varnish them. Any remaining smokey residue will be set into the varnish, making these perfectly book safe.

Note 01: I use a water based wood varnish, less toxic vapor wise (yay) easy water cleanup.

Note 02: You can use a big brush to varnish quickly in 1-2 minutes, however I prefer to use a tiny brush so that I can take my time (30minutes lol) and get the varnish evenly on the bookmark and perfectly into all those little nooks and cut edges without leaving too much excess varnish.

Note 03: Make sure you varnish the edges where there is the most smoke residue to seal them up.

Note 04: Varnish does change the tone of the wood, Jarrah becomes darker and richer with clear varnish.

Note 05: If your wood comes pre-varnished, still do this step of prep and varnish, except instead of varnishing the top and back of your bookmark, avoid the already varnished surface and varnish the lazercut edges along the side to stop that smokey residue marking the precious bookies.

03a. After your bookmarks are dry, pick your thread/string/wool/cord/strap <3

03b. Slip your cord through whichever gap corner you like (I prefer organic cord threading as opposed to adding a specific cord hole cut in a bookmark design).

03c. BEFORE tying your thread off, slip your tassel on, you can choose to use your own OR use the little hearts that were cut with your bookmark. I designed the hearts with 1.7mm holes to cut with the bookmark so that you can thread them onto your cord as a tassel. If you don't want them as your tassel, you can totally use them to make super cute mini heart earrings or pendants.

03d. Check the length is what you want for your bookmark and tie off your cord. Cut the excess cord and VIOLA, the bookmark is complete <3
