Step 1: Create the Blank

Make a rectangle

The size may vary depending on the image you want to add and the size of books you are going to use it on.  For these I made them 125mm long and 25-35mm wide

Round the corners of the rectangle at 4

Add a 5mm circle at one end.  Select it and choose Bring to Front

Select it and the rectangle and Subtract

Step 2: Choose or Design Your Image

There are so many fun choices that you can put on bookmarks!

You can make your own or I have included 3 choices in the file that you can use

  • “this is where you fell asleep”
  • “Quitter Strip”
  • “to bee continued”

You may want to adjust the height of your rectangle based on the image so having a few blank options would be a good idea.

Step 3: Engrave and Cut

I suggest masking your wood.  This reduces the need for sanding or clean up after.

For engraving my settings were 25 power at 250 speed and cutting is 100 power at 25 speed

Peel off the masking and touch up any spots that need clean up

Step 4: Add String or Cord

Add string or cord to your bookmarks

I used embroidery thread in a couple of colors.  There are a few ways to tie it on.  I suggest picking something that won't be too thick so it won't distort your book

Pick some colors that go with your bookmarks and have fun

Happy reading!
